Greetings to the Pacific Ocean Paperfolders!
Here's the info on what occurred at the February 24th meeting:
Michael displayed a Kawasaki Red Rose
with Green Leafy Base and taught the very
complicated folding procedure to Ben, Ryan, Jasmine, Leon and Joyce G. Ben, Ryan, Jasmine and Leon finished
the design. (Leon and Joyce G. had difficulties. Leon finished, but Joyce G. dropped out and just
watched). Ryan's mother thought they would be nice for a party and wanted 30 of them!!! Michael used
special red folding rose paper.
Michael also showed us a very beautiful golden horse that we all admired (Joyce G. didn't feel she could
"steal" this one since he had already given her two horses.)
Ben displayed fabulous dragons and a little red foil plane. Jasmine showed us tiny cranes that were connected to each other, a sack of Rosebuds (Joyce received one of these) and a great looking pair of small silver foil scissors.
Bennett taught Louie the pinwheel transformer (which changes into a ring shape) and also how to make a
colorful decorative box. Bennett told us we could get multicolored packs of paper at Office Depot for a
reasonable price.
The Great Yami appeared later in the afternoon and made an origami book (Bennett said instructions for this
are in David Brill's book, "Brilliant Origami"). We all loved the book (Joyce begged and, therefore,
received the finished one). Yami then made a very special orange paper one-inch book for Marylou. He wrote
Japanese sayings on each page that were words to live by and also added some special phrases requested by
Marylou.
Michael then showed Yami his bento Box which contained actual size origami sushi.
In addition to the California rolls, etc, there were origami chopsticks and even a very tiny shrimp. Very Low Calorie!!! After seeing the sushi, Yami presented Michael with a sushi dipping dish that said "Make Cows Happy, eat Sushi". Another food item presented by Michael was one round pancake with two pats of butter and two strawberries on stop. However, he said he needed to make a fork.......
Tony (who has a shop called "Hobby Lobby" in Burbank) flew his rubber band glider plane around the room. We
all loved this.
That's all folks.
Joyce G. (Filling in For Dorothy)
P. S. Get Well Greetings to Dorothy who couldn't be there and also Joyce Sandler.
Our next meeting is March 24th. Be there or be square!
